They were selected based on the success of their second-place senior division entry, Olympe De Gouges: Declaration of Humanities, in the National History Day Pittsburgh 2025 competition at the Heinz History Center on March 15-16. Students worked under the direction of GATE teacher Dr. Cyndi Poole.

Eighth grader Matthew Deegan placed first in the National History Day Pittsburgh 2025 competition at the Heinz History Center for his project, The History of Rights and Responsibilities of the Roman Empire. He worked under the direction of GATE teacher Mrs. Cecelia Kelly.

National History Day draws upon a unique historical theme each year and encourages middle school and high school students to research history in an exciting and creative way.

Hundreds of students in grades 6-12 from Allegheny, Washington, Greene, Fayette, Westmoreland and Somerset counties participate annually in National History Day Pittsburgh. First-, second-, and third-place winners move on to the state competition. Top winners from the state competition move on to the national competition in June.
