Eighth Graders Welcome Rep. Mercuri and Sen. Williams
On January 30, eighth graders at Pine-Richland Middle School welcomed Pennsylvania State Representative Rob Mercuri and Pennsylvania State Senator Lindsey Williams for an assembly tied to their current social studies coursework on citizenship and the role of government in our lives.
Following brief introductions by Rep. Mercuri and Sen. Williams in which they shared their paths to their current offices, students volunteered to ask questions they had prepared in advance, including:
- Why did you want to run for office?
- What is it like to be in the majority or minority?
- What is your stance on charter schools and why?
- How do you deal with social media?
- What is your favorite amendment and why?
- What is it like to be a republican in Allegheny County (to Mercuri)?
Rep. Mercuri and Sen. Williams offered their different perspectives to each question in a thoughtful exchange with the students.
