On January 30th, 31st and February 1st Pine Richland Middle School performed their winter musical. It was a hit with most of the seats filled up for their last three shows. Even with a few technical difficulties at times, the show went extremely well.

They performed the show School of Rock. This show was written in 2003 and follows an aspiring musician Dewy Finn. Dewy impersonates his best friend and becomes a teacher. Dewy arrives at school and teaches his class how to play rock.

Dewy Finn was played by Desolina Postreich. She was an excellent choice for the role and sang all of her songs beautifully. She handled every challenge thrown at her. She handled many obstacles like missing props and late castmates with ease. Rosalie Mullins, which is the principal of the prep school, was played by 7th-grader Chloe Kerns. She had many solos and a huge speaking part. Chloe had some very high notes in her songs that caused the whole audience to burst into applause. Her main song, “Where Did the Rock Go” caused the entire audience to pull out their phones and turn on their flashlights.

The director of the show, Jamie Miller, did an amazing job. She was able to direct her show with 60 kids in it. Her dances and scenes were well blocked and you could feel how much time she put in to make this show shine. The kids have been working so hard for this show since October, and Jamie really brought out the best in each and every student.

One of the most important parts of this show was the stage crew. They did an outstanding job. They were able to make each mic work and all of the lighting. They also played the background tracks for every song. The props had to be taken on and off stage, and they did this very well. Some of the props were very expensive, like drums and electric guitars. They were very careful with each set piece and contributed immensely to the show running so smoothly. Overall, the show was a hit and I am so excited to see what Jamie comes up with next year.
