Audition Resources

Submit the Online Audition Form

The first step is to fill out the audition form online. This will give us a good idea of the number of participants and how much time we will need for auditions.

Select Audition Material

Choose one of the selections below to sing for us and one of the monologues to recite. We do prefer that lyrics and monologues are memorized.

  • Good Morning, Baltimore audition cut (link in Google Classroom)
  • Do You Want to Build a Snowman (link in Google Classroom - from 0-1:25 on the video)
  • Monologue (choose one):
    • Trunchbull (from Matilda the Musical)
In this world, children, there are two types of human beings. The winners and the losers. I play by the rules and I win. But if I play by the rules and...I, if I do not win, then something is wrong, something is not working. And when something is wrong, you have to put it right, even if it screams.

(To Matilda) You are not fit to be in this school! You ought to be in prison, in the deepest, dankest, darkest prison! I shall have you wheeled out, strapped to a trolley with a muzzle over your mouth! I shall crush you! I shall pound you, I shall dissect, you madam! I shall strap you to a table and perform experiments on you. All of those disgusting little slugs shall suffer the most appalling indignities because of you-yes you!

    • Patrick (from Spongebob the Musical)
Huh? Sorry. I found this great belly button scratcher while I was packing, and we’ve been having a reaaaaaaaly nice time together. Cause um... sometimes my bellybutton itches. And then it doesn’t. But you don’t understand. I’m stuck inside and I can’t watch any of my shows. Because all that’s on TV is THIS! The innermachinations of my mind are an enigma... I don’t know what METAPHORICALLY MEANS! OUR team needs a name: PatBob. PatBobSpongeRick? Finally someone understands: the inner machinations of my mind!

Mark Your Calendar: October 21

Mark your calendar for October 21 from 2:45 pm – 3:30 pm to learn the audition dance. We would like everyone to attend this short session. If you can not attend, we will post a video to learn the dance at home in the Google  Classroom. Everyone will perform the dance at their audition.

Audition Schedule

  • Monday, October 21—2:45 pm - 3:45 pm: Dance with Miss Kosha
  • Tuesday, October 22—2:45 pm – 4:15 pm: Auditions
  • Wednesday, October 23–10:00 am: Show reveal and callbacks posted in the Google Classroom
  • Friday, October 25–2:45 pm - 3:45 pm: Callbacks

Once we have everyone planning to audition accounted for, we will break you into groups of five, and you will be given a 15-minute time slot. During those 15 minutes, you will perform the dance we taught, your song selection and your monologue.

For this day, you’ll want to arrive 15 minutes early to stretch, warm up and be ready in the event we are ahead of schedule. Please use the 15-minute prior arrival time as the “on-time time,” so that we can stay on schedule.

Stage crew does not need to audition, but they must join the Google Classroom. Stage crew practices will start after Thanksgiving.

Virtual Auditions

If your child can’t make the auditions for out-of-town reasons, you can submit a virtual audition. Please use this Google Drive link and create a dance video, a singing video, and an acting audition. Please name your videos your child's name then - dance or sing or act and email them to msmusical@pinerichland.org. You must submit all three areas to be considered for a lead role.

Virtual auditions must be submitted by Tuesday, October 22, at 5:00 pm.. If you do not audition for the musical in person or virtually, you can still be a part of the ensemble. Late auditions for lead roles will not be accepted.

Cast List

The cast list will be posted on Saturday, October 26, by noon, in the Google Classroom. The list is final, however, we will be happy to answer questions from students about what they can do for next year to get a bigger role.

Rehearsals

We have approximately 28 scheduled rehearsals. With illnesses prevalent this year ( and seemingly every year), we will be casting understudies for lead roles. If you miss seven rehearsals (25% of the rehearsals), your understudy will take over. You will still be able to be in the show in the ensemble. We hope this would never happen and seven is more than reasonable given all the dates are scheduled up front, however missing a quarter of the rehearsals shows that the musical is not a priority which is unfair to the rest of the team.
